With the advancement of technology allowing the creation of cameras which leverage artificial learning to identify objects, numbers and letters, many law enforcement agencies and other groups throughout the country have begun using them to aid and assist with investigations. These cameras can silently, constantly, and to a very great degree unerringly record and identify vehicles which cross their field of view down to the make, model, color and license plate. This lessens the need for agencies to place officers at various points around their jurisdiction with a hot sheet in order to locate vehicles which may be involved in crimes. But, the use of this technology brings with it a powerful concern about the intrusion of government on to American's civil liberties.
Flock Safety is a company on the bleeding edge of this discussion, having installed cameras in various cities and neighborhoods around the country. Joining us this week to discuss is Amanda Spees, a former police dispatcher and now one of Flock Security's liaisons with agencies, communities, and governing bodies, to discuss the potential benefits and drawbacks that this new technology can hold.
