And then how do we change the system? How given the state of the world, do you manage to continue to care as much as you do? Do you walk to school or take your lunch? If you all can only care if things are going well, then what does that mean about caring? Should I have spent the last 50 years curled up in a ball? In this conversation, Nefeli shares her journey from starting Judo at a young age to becoming a coach. She discusses the emotional aspects of competition, the importance of discipline, and how to build confidence in kids. Nefeli emphasizes the need for a balanced approach to coaching, where both winning and losing are part of the learning process. She also highlights the significance of humility and accountability in sports, and how these lessons extend beyond the mat into everyday life. Takeaways Nefeli started Judo at four years old, influenced by her brother. Emotional responses to competition are common in children. Disappointment can lead to growth if managed properly. Discipline is essential for success in any sport. Building confidence in kids is crucial for their development. Coaches should tailor their approach based on individual needs. Kids need to learn how to handle competition pressure. Expectations from parents can impact a child's experience in sports. Humility in winning is as important as striving for success. The gym serves as an important outlet for children's energy.
