Meet Dr. Jazmina Urriola the visionary Afrolatina behind Allayya, a mental health app that empowers the modern Latina to practice real self-care.

Dr. Urriola is a native of Panama and joins us for the second time to share her experience starting a business from scratch, and the tips and tricks she has learned during her entrepreneurial career. Dr. Urriolla also shared the personal story that inspired her to learn more about self-care, and talks about how being an AfroLatina has added more complexity to her mental health journey. While in search of help, Dr. Uriiola didn’t see herself represented in the mental health apps available in the market, so she embarked in a journey to create a space that centers the needs of the modern Latina, providing tools and exercises created by mental health experts, because real self-case is evidence-based:

In this episode we talked about:

  • 🚀 Entrepreneurship journey: Starting her own business from scratch & the tips and tricks she has learned during her entrepreneurial journey
  • 💖 Self-care and identity: Understanding self-care and the relationship between identity and mental health
  • 🌺 Afro Latina experience: Identifying as an Afro Latina and the additional toll race has taken on Jazmina’s mental health
  • 🔬 Mysticism vs science: How most apps in the market today that cater to women are based on mysticism and not real science
  • 🌟 Latina-centered tool: Creating a tool that caters to Latinas, with content from experts and professionals in the mental health arena.
