In this episode, we talk about Capitalism, Degrowth and Human Wellbeing. We open with the technological development and increase in living standards the global north enjoyed over the past century. We then discuss the necessity of exploitative relationships under capitalism and we discuss individual gain, market relations and competition. We analyse why Capitalism cannot exist without constant growth and what alternatives we must take into consideration. You will learn about structural barriers for Degrowth and why it is so important to create new narratives that generate overarching wellbeing for society. You will her why Milena is hopeful and we define subjective and objective human wellbeing. We discuss localisation and decision making processes such as social participation. We evaluate the role of technology such as fusion energy and we discuss its limitations. We finish up today with concrete steps towards a transition on the way to a post-growth society.
