Manage episode 427789545 series 3450735
From John Krasinski's rockstar directorial debut, A Quiet Place (2018), we had a new kind of horror born- blind aliens with super(alien) human hearing- high level concept, baby! We then had a sequel, and now we are given A Quiet Place: Day One by Michael Sarnoski (The Pig) and starring the always amazing Lupita Nyong'o, Stranger Thing's Joseph Quinn, and an amazing cat named Frodo! We talk through a quick and spoiler-free movie review that we hope you enjoy!
What if David Lynch wrote and directed an adaptation of Bill Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? We may never have that answer, but we have an entry here that is just as powerful and out-there as that would be- Bertrand Bonello's The Beast. La bête in French, the film's native tongue. Starring potentially the greatest actress of all time, the haunting and wonderful Lea Seydoux, along side a tense and nearly magical performance turned in by George MacKay. 'The Beast' debuted in festivals in 2023, but truly got theatrical release and distribution in 2024, and you absolutely CANNOT miss this incredible film. Come along as we dive deep down into the wonderland of ghosts, fate, and time-travel in an absolutely unforgettable and suffocatingly unique movie.. The Beast aka La bête. Again, Léa Seydoux, you're sold?
We finish the episode with a stone-cold classic you've probably never even heard of, the absolutely terrifying Seconds which came out in 1966 directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Frank Campanella, the always fantastic John Randolph.. and oh ya, ROCK HUDSON!! Horror fans, kino fans, old Hollywood fans, cinema lovers, do NOT let your life go by without watching and traveling to the black and white nightmare that is 'Seconds.' A little bit Twilight Zone, a bit of a cerebral dive into the American dream, but entirely human and soul-wrenching. Please listen join us as we adventure into the beautifully demented mind of Frankenheimer, the out-of-body performance by one of the greatest actors to ever grace Hollywood, Rock Hudson, and allow yourself introspection as you witness one of the most horrifying questions ever be asked and played out on your screen- What if it's all not enough? Seconds evocates an all too human feeling that we hide deeply buried in our souls, experience this film for yourself- we guarantee you won't leave it the same as you went into it. Seconds (1966) is what movies are all about, discover this gem. And for the real, real cinema & kino nerds, this is Frankenheimer's conclusion to his paranoia trilogy, and by far his most weird and amazing!
Also, huge shout out to the Criterion Channel for the recommendation for Seconds!
And, as always, we watch WAY more movies than you! See you people! If you love us like we love you, please consider sharing us with your amazing mothers and dropping a 5-star review! THANKS!
