This month we spoke to Nicholas K. Johnson from the Center for German-American Educational History at the University of Münster about a new edited volume, Show, Don't Tell. Education and historical representations on stage and screen in Germany and the USA. Our wide-ranging discussion touches on the definitions and uses of public history; transatlantic developments in the field; the relationship between public history and educational history; film as an educational tool; and the educative potential of Holocaust film, drawing on Nicholas’s research on HBO’s Conspiracy.
