If you’re like me, when you became a mom, it became a defining moment for you. Everything changed and you have never been the same.
You are proud of being a mom and would do anything for your kids. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you are a mom.
Then stuff hit the fan and you got divorced. You’ve hit the reset button and split everything up, including parenting time.
In one fell swoop, you went from full-time parent to part-time parent. Problem is, no one told your full-time mom instinct. And it doesn’t abide by your part-time parenting schedule.
Ever since your children came into your life, your mind, heart and body permanently embedded themselves in the mom-frame. Everything you experience gets viewed through the mom lens… and that’s never going to change.
And because of that, there comes a lot of uncomfortable feelings when your children are not with you.
Guilt. Shame. Sadness. Anger. Despair. Impatience. Hopelessness. Worry.
I get it. Me too.
So I want to ask you this: who are you outside of being a mother?
Not sure? That’s ok. It’s not an easy question to answer but it’s worth exploring.
On this 21st episode of the Healthy Mom After Divorce Podcast, I talk about the struggle with the full-time mom/part-time parent paradox, how you start to reconcile with yourself and how you already have everything you need to love life again.
