Coming to you once again for the SPOC located at the Drake Building of the University of Arizona, Professor Josh Emery and I sat down and discussed many issues. Josh is the Lawrence A. Taylor Associate Professor of Planetary Sciences at the University of Tennessee. He is currently on sabbatical and based at the University of Arizona, preparing for the work that awaits him as lead of the TAWG (Thermal Analysis Working Group) on the OSIRIS-REx mission. Understanding the thermal properties of planetary bodies, in this case Bennu, is rather critical for reasons founded in both science and engineering. We also spent time discussing how, finding ourselves in a large NASA-funded space mission, meant that we had to become skilled managers of aspects of the science team. Most scientists get no training through their studies or research on how to manage people, certainly not a group much larger than their own research base. Recorded October 2018.
