In April 1976, she was shot five times by Berkowitz in a Bronx parking lot, making her one of his earliest known victims. Although she miraculously survived, she lost the use of one eye due to her injuries. For years, her case remained unlinked to Berkowitz’s killing spree, leaving her to face disbelief when sharing her story. However, recent investigations by the NYPD have officially recognized her as one of Berkowitz’s victims .

The encounter deeply affected Savino’s life, leading her to relocate to England for recovery after the attack. Decades later, investigators connected her case to Berkowitz, recognizing her bravery and ordeal during his reign of terror . Despite the tragic events, Savino’s story is a testament to her resilience and survival.
