In this Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Paul Mercier, Writer & Director of Prospect House ahead of its screening at this year’s Cork International Film Festival. Prospect House is a satirical film about a group of protestors who stage a period re- enactment in a dilapidated 18th century house in a last ditch effort to save the building from demolition. The film deals with the final days of the illegal occupation of the house by the protestors. They are a motley crew of artists, actors and activists who want to bring the building’s plight to the attention of the world and to rescue it from the claws of aggressive property developers. The protestors believe that they can save the building by telling its story. But the project is rife with discord, as no-one can agree what story they are telling. Set in Ireland in the present day, the film challenges conventional understandings and perceptions of heritage, historical narrative and truth. Prospect House screens at the Cork International Film Festival at Everyman Theatre, Cork, at 8.30pm on Friday 17th November. https://corkfilmfest.org/ https://filmireland.net/
