Episode 68 Liz Allan and Lorna McAtear - The Changing Face of Fleet Management
Liz Allan speaks to Lorna McAtear, Head of Fleet at National Grid. They discuss organisations' evolving roles and responsibilities in fleet management and sustainability. Lorna shares valuable insights on the increasing importance of fleet managers, who now have a career path to the executive board level. Lorna also speaks about being a Mentor and Influencing Change, encouraging others and bringing more people into the fleet industry.
Lorna McAtear Bio:
Lorna McAtear began her career in project management, specifically in the field of IT. However, she transitioned into Fleet management when she realised that a significant portion of a car's technology now relied on computer systems. This realisation prompted her to explore carbon reduction projects, such as removing roof racks from vans and implementing telemetry systems. She became one of the pioneers in using a single black box instead of two, opening up new possibilities for efficiency. Through these experiences, Lorna eventually became a commercial vehicle manager and developed a deep understanding of the Fleet industry. Her success in this transition demonstrated the transferable nature of her matrix management skills, a concept many overlook.
