The Dudes have a one of their deepest and most thought provoking discussions yet with Dr. Lydia Ortega, who is a former Professor and 15-year Chair of the Department of Economics at San Jose State University. Now happily retired and living in Plano, her passion for freedom and serving students is undiminished as she runs for Plano ISD's Board of Trustees Place 4.
What an amazing conversation, covering topics from Lydia's growing up in East Los Angeles, to her tenure as an Economics Professor and Department Chair. She pulls on he experiences with her students, colleagues and family and made us both think really hard about life and freedom in America.
As an economist with over 30 years of experience in higher education, Lydia brings economic skills including reviewing long-run benefits and costs and looking for unintended consequences of decisions. She has extensive experience both working at all education levels as well as serving on non-profit and corporate boards.
Lydia believes no student should be stripped of dignity, a unique sense of self-worth, or a desire to strive for better. She plans to bring her educational experience to the board and ensure they give every student the best chance for success.
