In a short space of time, writer, theatre director and entrepreneur CJ Lloyd Webley has developed a flair for business to match his creative talents.
CJ earns his keep as a theatre director, working at Birmingham's Rep theatre.
But, after been moved by the protests and marches that followed the murder of George Floyd in 2020, he decided to launch a new project to help black entrepreneurs across the West Midlands.
The Black Pounds Project offers mentoring, training and membership packages and has helped kickstart and boost the careers and businesses of burgeoning black entrepreneurs.
In this episode, CJ talks Henrietta through his career in writing and acting – from the moment he decided to pursue theatre through to the process of writing and producing his first play.
He discusses discovering his entrepreneurial flair, setting up the Black Pounds Project and how it has already helped more than 1,500 businesses.
We also hear his best joke as a stand-up comedian and learn about one of his early jobs which he describes as “the most intimidating thing I’ve done in my life”.
