Trump, Truth Social, and the Fight for the Republic with Lee Smith
Manage episode 459090102 series 3603415
I welcome my colleague Lee Smith, the author of a new book, Disappearing The President: Trump, Truth Social, and the Fight for the Republic.
We've talked over the years about Lee’s time in the Middle East and about the excitement of being a journalist. My radio show has always been eager to talk to Lee, but now we're focused on a piece of history that's incomplete.
I want to begin this with a report—this is NBC reporting in these last hours—that Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, said it had donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural fund.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed the donation to The Wall Street Journal. “The donation is the latest swing,” writes NBC, “in the up and down relationship between Trump and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's company. Trump this year has publicly this year publicly threatened Zuckerberg with ‘life in prison’ if he did anything Trump viewed as illegal during this year's presidential election campaign.”
Zuckerberg and Facebook—why? Why do we need to focus on this? What does the dinner between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump reveal to us about Lee’s book?
