This show was so much fun.
Carrying on the guest mix series, we welcome local Sydney DJ legend Illya Cooper.
Illya has been part of Sydney's house music fabric for over 25 years. Known or his jacking, jazzy rhythms but more so his insane technical ability. He's played with the biggest names out there including Basement Jaxx NYE on Bondi Beach to 20,000, Derek Carter and Mark Farina NYE and most recently closing for both Mousse T and Danny Rampling on consecutive weekends for Ministry of Sound. And now he can add the c2eMusic Radio Show to that illustrious list!
There were a couple of technical issues that led to no music for a few minutes but that's all been cut from the recording. I also need to apologise for the volume levels with the mic, I need to buy a second mic for interviews.
The good news is that we were having so much fun that we played for an extra hour b2b!
We then went on to play b2b closing for Mark Farina a couple of nights later. Illya opened and played the first few tracks before I took over. While I was playing Illya jumped on the third CDJ and stated dropping lyrics and chopping things up, it was intense, mental and loads of fun.
I look forward to more b2b sessions with Illya for any Sydney promoters reading this.
Next week marks my last show on Pressure Radio after almost 13 years. I aim to make it a special show, drawing on music from the last 13 years that showcase the best of the show.
All is not lost, I will be moving across to Andy Ward's new Vocal Booth Radio. However I am moving from Thursdays to Tuesdays so that I can go back to a weekly show. It will be at the same time as the current show.
There will be a monthly guest slot, continuing on from Illya. I will do a monthly crate dig, as well as a brand new music show like today. The fourth show I'm still considering ideas. One is for me to pick out tracks that have meaning to me and play them along with a little about my connection to that track.
I will publish the recording from our closing set for Mark Farina, it's pretty cool!
