In Rugby League: Rugby union convert Mark Nawaqanitawase set the NRL world alight with a high-flying try at Accor Stadium, while fellow Wing Junior Pauga scored a hat-trick and James Tedesco a double for the Sydney Roosters 36-28 win over arch rivals South Sydney last night.
Meanwhile, in the battle of the wooden spooners; the Eels hammered Benji’s Tigers 26-60 in the Spoon Bowl at a sold-out Campbelltown Stadium last night.
Parramatta’s big win actually leapfrogged them over the Rabbitohs into 15th spot on the ladder, thanks to their superior points difference.
In the NFL: The Kansas City Chiefs overcame a late Lamar Jackson surge to kick their Super Bowl defence off with a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens in a thrilling NFL season opener.
It was a chaotic end to a strong opening game showing from the Chiefs, who showed why they have everything needed to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.

American women have had more success than the men this century, mainly because of Serena Williams, but another American Jessica Pegula faces World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in tomorrow’s women’s final.
Finally, in Football: After two decades, 140 games with 134 losses, including a 13-0 thrashing by Germany, an 11-0 loss to the Netherlands and a 10-0 loss to England in 2021, six draws and zero wins - San Marino, the world’s fifth-smallest country, ranked 210th on the FIFA Men’s rankings, secured its first ever win 1-0 over European rivals Liechtenstein.
