At the Paris Olympic Games: Simone Biles soared to the Women’s Vault gold yesterday, her gravity-defying Yurchenko double pike propelling her to a third triumph of the Paris Olympic Games, and her seventh career Olympic title.
Just how good is Super Simone?
Well put it this way - the US great now owns a total of 40 world and Olympic medals - 30 of them gold.
Biles could add to that tally tomorrow, when she competes in the balance beam and floor exercise finals.
And there are 28 gold medal events in Paris today, where in Basketball group games – Women: China 80-58 Puerto Rico, Serbia 62-70 Spain, USA 87-74 Belgium and France 75-54 Nigeria.
And Men – France 71-85 Germany, Pueto Rico 83-104 USA, Serbia 96-85 South Sudan and Canada 88-85 Spain.
In Rugby League: Despite a red-hot start from Broncos superstar Reece Walsh, who scored two tries in four minutes - the Broncos 2024 season is over after copping a shellacking from the Titans, who scored seven unanswered tries in the second half to walk away 46-18 winners.
And to make matters worse they’ve lost two star players to injuries:
· Payne Haas was ruled out of the game 11 minutes in with a foot injury, which has since been reported as a suspected Lisfranc injury — that would mean season over for the powerhouse prop.
· Ezra Mam joined him on the sideline after suffering what looked to be a serious ankle injury.
In Football: Paris Olympic Games Football Women’s QFs overnight: USA 1-0 Japan, Spain 2-2 Colombia, Canada vs Germany are currently locked nil all in the 89th minute and France vs Brazil to play. Men’s Quarterfinals yesterday: Morocco 4-0 USA, Japan 0-3 Spain, Egypt 1-1 Paraguay and France 1-0 Argentina.
In Boxing: Australian boxer Skye Nicholson lashed out at misinformation in the media about the female boxers from Algeria and Taiwan currently causing controversy at the Paris Olympic Games.
“I’ve actually fought and sparred both of the girls,” Nicholson said.
“They were born female, they have the physical attributes of a female. They have grown up as girls, as females, as women. They have competed as women the whole time.
“They are not naturally born men who have decided to call themselves women or identify as women to fight women in the Olympics.
“I think the abuse and the power of the media, and people just jumping on the bandwagon without knowing all the details, is honestly horrible.
“These girls have represented their country on numerous occasions for many, many years now as female fighters, and they do not deserve this mistreatment.”
