In this episode, we spoke with Cheryl Woodruff Brooks, the author of Chicken Bone Beach - A Pictorial History of Atlantic City’s Missouri Avenue Beach. We explored the challenges and triumphs of the Black community as they fought against racial discrimination and carved out a space of joy and leisure amidst a deeply divided society. The history of Chicken Bone Beach also includes the 20th century jazz and entertainment scene, featuring legendary musicians who performed on its stages.
