In parts of the world people are moving closer to the independency from the grid, creating their own energy in which they can store energy in a virtual account and recall it back from the grid. In this episode Stephan sits down with Ramesh Natarajan a thermal management expert working in the home-storage space. In this episode we explore cloud-based energy, electric home storage systems, differences between traction and home storage systems, battery swapping technologies and more.
Ramesh Natarajan is 34 years old. Before moving to Europe in 2010, he completed his bachelor's of mechanical engineering in India. He then completed his double-masters degree in Wales & Germany, after which he started his electromobility career at BMW as a thermal management expert, working in programs such as i3, i8, Gen1-5. Gaining a deep understanding of thermal design of the lithium-ion cell and the safety aspect, he moved to Webasto, one of the world-leading TIER-I automotive suppliers. Having held different roles from thermal management expert, chief engineer, technical sales, he finally ended up in the USA leading the battery division market-entry activities. After a short stint in a software startup in Germany, he is now the Director of Battery at Senec GmbH, one of the market giants in the home-storage space. Over the last 11 years, he has enjoyed working on innovative lithium-battery programs. He loves photography and traveling.
SENEC GmbH is an energy company based in Leipzig, Germany, offering solutions for the energy self-sufficiency of private households and small businesses. A key component are the battery storage systems developed and produced by the company itself, whose energy management optimizes solutions such as photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, heating rods or wall boxes. In addition, Senec is considered the inventor of a swarm storage solution for the performance of balancing energy and the electricity cloud.
