Jake Rowland believes that life’s greatest impact comes from helping others. This belief became deeply personal when he donated a kidney to a close friend, an experience that reshaped his perspective and fueled his passion for advocacy. As Director of Operations and Associate Broker with Team Kristin Brown at Keller Williams Coastal Area Partners, Jake brings integrity, strategic problem-solving, and a client-focused approach to real estate. His ability to connect with people and guide them through major decisions has earned him a strong reputation in the industry. Beyond real estate, Jake is a passionate advocate for kidney donation and a volunteer Donor Mentor with the Georgia Transplant Foundation, providing support and encouragement to those considering organ donation. An avid traveler, Jake believes that any day at the beach is a good day. When he’s not working with clients or volunteering, he enjoys music, time with family, and finding new ways to give back. His journey is a testament to the power of generosity, resilience, and human connections. Dayna Cohen did the quintessential New York thing—born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, and later settling in Long Island. But after Hurricane Sandy and a few life changes in 2016, she made a bold move to Savannah, Georgia, determined to leave snowy winters behind for good. She quickly found her place in the community, built strong friendships, and in 2021, finally decided it was time to upgrade her furniture. That decision led her to Jake Rowland, who helped her pick out a new chair and dressers—an ordinary shopping trip that would unexpectedly change her life. The two bonded over their shared love of New York, exchanging stories, jokes, and eventually, a lasting friendship. Months later, when Dayna was diagnosed with kidney failure, Jake was one of the first people to hear her story. What she didn’t know at the time was that he would soon become more than a friend—he would become her kidney donor. Through a journey filled with challenges, resilience, and unwavering support, Dayna gained not just a life-saving kidney but an incredible friendship and extended family. Now, she is dedicated to mentoring other kidney recipients as they wait for their match. As a Donor Mentor with the Georgia Transplant Foundation, she provides guidance, encouragement, and hope to those navigating the emotional and physical journey of transplantation. When she’s not advocating for kidney health, Dayna enjoys the coastal charm of Savannah, cherishing sunny days, great food, and the friendships that make life truly meaningful. Her story is a testament to the unexpected connections that can change everything. Send us a text…

Long Beach-resident and musician Mark Allen Lanoue has an ambitious new project — a record deal for an album featuring some heavy weights from the metal scene, forming the group Fiction SYXX. The 11-track LP titled “Tall Dark Secrets” is set for an August release on Melodic Rock Records. Lanoue has been a singer and guitarist for rock bands, including Biloxi, Chasing Karma and Persian Risk. With him in Fiction SYXX is Tony “The Fretless Monster” Franklin, who played alongside Jimmy Page in The Firm and also played with Blue Murder and Kenny Wayne Shepard; Nashville studio drummer and MIT graduate Rory Faciane; keyboardist Eric Ragno, who played with Joel Lynn Turner and Graham Bonnet; and, Lanoue’s initial inductee into the lineup, multi-instrumentalist and guitarist JK Northrup, who played in King Kobra and XYZ. Other musicians who made guest appearances on the album are from the bands Firehouse, Nazareth, House of Lords and Trixter. Lanoue shares lead vocals with former Krokus frontman Carl Sentance on the song “Larger than Life.” There also is an appearance by local guitarist Andy Lee, who shared lead on the album’s last track, “Children of the Night.” The first song written for the album was “Welcome to My Nightmare,” which is not a cover of the Alice Cooper classic, but rather is an original that Lanoue said establishes the essence of the album, which sways between album-oriented, melodic and progressive rock. “It’s a moving window,” Lanoue said. “The final result is a mix of big choruses and guitar and the smooth movements of the fretless bass.” The band’s name, Fiction SYXX, is a reference to the number 666 — which Lanoue said has meanings that are not just Biblical, but also have historical and mythological significance. Lanoue, a self-proclaimed “non-judgmental Christian,” said his fascination with the number was drawn from his birth date — the sixth day of the sixth month in 1966, which is 6/6/1966. “With that being my birthday, I lived with that aura,” he said. “You give someone your ID and they look at you like you’re about to light them on fire.” Lanoue said there is plenty of spirituality in the album’s artwork that features elaborate works by “CAB” Carl Andrew Bleckmark, whose past work included art for Iron Maiden, as well as the track “Spirits Collide,” a song he wrote for a late family loved one. Lanoue said the lineup lends something special to each song. “It’s humbling. Some of these guys are heroes,” he said. To date, there are no plans for touring due to everyone’s demanding schedules. Lanoue said there is a possibility that they could unite for some festival shows if the right opportunity presents itself. Kick The Wicked Send us a text…

Ed is a native of New Haven, Connecticut and a graduate of the University of Connecticut, Class of 1969. In 1965, he founded Bands Unlimited which later morphed into Miriam Cohen Productions with his wife as his business partner. The business soon became the largest independent music management/booking agency in New England: managing five bands and booking one hundred. Simultaneously, he was playing 2nd sax, percussion and was backup singer for “The Gravy Train”. Throughout his involvement in the East Coast music scene, he worked with: Jerry Greenberg (later President of Atlantic Records and MJJ Music for Michael Jackson at Sony); Craig McGregor (Foghat); Bobby Torello (Edgar Winter); Fred Parris and the 5 Satins (of “In the Still of the Night Fame”); and Michael Bolton (formerly known as Michael Bolotin); and many others. In 1974, Ed encountered Dave Biro and his invention, The BiroTron- widely recognized as the rarest instrument in rock music history. Ed arranged a meeting with Rick Wakeman, keyboardist of YES, while in search of an endorsement to raise funds to build the instrument. Wakeman instead suggested a partnership with manufacturing be conducted at his factory in High Wickham, UK. However, only seventeen units were produced. Even so, the Biroron was used on recordings by YES, Wakeman, Tangerine Dream and extensively on the road. In 1980, Ed left the music scene with the emergence of disco. No one could pay him enough to play or even listen to THAT! When Ed moved to Southern California in 2008, he started hearing the music that he loved –ROCK! At a chance meeting poolside at a Palm Springs resort he met Robin McAuley, the lead singer of Survivor (now with the Michael Schenker Group - MSG). After a two-hour conversation, Robin said something that gave Ed pause for thought. Robin said: “You know what I am most grateful about in life? That, at my age, I am still privileged to perform and entertain audiences.“ Having returned to CT in late 2018, Ed Currently manages Italian-American composer/conductor/arranger/producer/multi-instrumentalist/track engineer/mix engineer/mastering engineer Max Di Carlo and Second Sight, a classic rock band comprised of current and semi-retired major moguls in the film/TV industry. He also manages Ray Griggs, DGA Director/producer/technologist/writer. Latest additions to the team are Steve Johnson, Rob “Rob the Drummer” Gottfried and Marston Smith “Lord of the Cello.” Ed began a parallel career in filmmaking in 2021 as a location scout, locations manager, associate producer, product placement specialist and has since worked on four feature films and lining up more at the time of this writing. On January 25, 2023, Ed had in initial lunch with Jonathan Black at The Blue Colony Diner in Newtown, Connecticut. They were astounded to fid that they had the burning goal to build the film industry in CT and committed to work together to get it done…and 5 months later with three other co-founders, and a great Board, The Connecticut Film and TV Alliance is ‘gittin’ ‘er done!’ The Chill Factor Radio Dj Jazzy Kat ProductionQue Send us a text…

A rock & roll lifer, James Maddock has been carving his unique path since the 1980s, when the New York City based, British-born singer/songwriter kicked off his career with a raw, soulful voice; a storyteller's sense of narrative; and the ability to blur the lines between folk, classic pop, and rock. Since his early days in London, he's ridden the wave of a music industry that's ebbed, flowed, peaked, and crashed. Maddock has stayed afloat throughout the entire ride, enjoying a brush with commercial success during the late 1990s - including a major-label record deal, a Top 5 AAA radio hit, and a song placements on major TV Series - before transforming himself into an independent solo artist during the decades that followed. After fronting the Columbia Records band Wood, whose debut Songs From Stamford Hill was featured prominently on TV shows such as “Dawson’s Creek,” Maddock moved from England to New York City in 2003. His 2009 album Sunrise On Avenue C won a New York Music Award for Best Americana Album, while the follow-up Wake Up And Dream ranked among the top albums of 2011 in WFUV's (NYC) Listener Poll. With the release of Another Life (2013) and a 5 further albums over the following 7 years, two of them created over the Corona Virus pandemic - No time to Cry (2020) and Little Bird in the Neighbourhood (2021) - which garnered critical acclaim and extensive radio play. His latest release in 2023 ‘Night Work’ is a beautiful collection of songs reminiscent of The Eagles and Credence Clearwater Revival - no imitation, simply landing effortlessly in the space between. Recorded with close musical friends including Steve Jackson (drums) and James O’Malley (bass) from his days in the band Wood. As well as Aaron Comess, Drew Mortali, Ben Stivers, Brian Mitchell, James Hallawell, Jack Daley, Heather Hardy and Olivier Durand. Mixed by the great Dave O’Donnell (Keith Richards, James Taylor, John Mayer). Amongst the first reviews, Dan French from ‘Point Blank’ wrote - ‘James’s remarkable talent for capturing the kaleidoscope of life in superbly crafted, heartfelt songs - ranging in mood from poignant heartbreak to upbeat joy, with the promise to nourish your spirit’. James Maddock continues to demonstrate why many consider him to be one of the best singer/songwriters working today. James has performed regularly with Willie Nile, Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors), David Immergluck (Counting Crows), Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm Band) and SNL drummer Shawn Pelton and has shared the stage with many well known artists such as Bruce Springsteen, The Waterboys, Pete Seeger, Levon Helm and many others. According to radio legend Vin Scelsa, Maddock's "heartbreakingly beautiful and exquisitely crafted" music "touches the soul." Relix Magazine put it this way: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately, he doesn't need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery." Stuart McLachlan from LouderThanWar.com wrote that James has ‘the ability to stun a crowded room into awe with just himself and a guitar’ and that ‘all his songs share a haunting guitar backdrop, and his voice is a marvel, torn and battered by life but infinitely resilient.’ As a songwriter, James had three songs co-written with Mike Scott on the Waterboys album Modern Blues (which appeared in the Top 50 on the UK Albums Chart) and a co-write with Gary Barlow (“Actress”) on Barlow’s album (2X Platinum). Songs from Another Life have been featured on NBC’s Parenthood and ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. Maddock is a constant live presence in the U.S. and Europe. Katie is a trained Level IV Seimei practitioner. Her training took place in America and Japan, where she received the Awarding of Power Ceremony at the Houjyushu Houjyukai Temple in the Seimei headquarters, Saga, Japan. As a member of the Board of Directors and the Event Coordinator of the Seimei Foundation USA, Katie keeps herself very involved with the Seimei community. Katie has a private practice, “Seimei Healing”, located in Westwood, NJ, where she works with her clients, both in-person and long-distance. She also offers Seimei demonstrations and workshops for her clients, organizations, and corporations. Katie also continues to increase her knowledge of Seimei through classes and workshops held at the Seimei Foundation. A mother of three girls, Katie, led her family through a difficult six-year journey when her eldest daughter, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with cancer. Inspired by her daughter’s quiet, gentle way of dealing with her cancer, she became passionate about helping children with cancer. When Elizabeth was five years into her cancer battle, an unexpected opportunity opened up. Katie got a chance to be a Seimei practitioner. For those first five years Katie struggled with why her tremendous love for her daughter wouldn't change her daughter's battle with cancer. Now Katie had something that did make a difference. Seimei helped soften the tough moments and reduce the pain for Elizabeth. As a mother, there was no greater relief than to finally be able to make a difference in her daughter's battle with cancer. She is forever grateful. https://seimeihealing.com/ https://thechillfactor.net Send us a text…

I was born in England and my family emigrated to the USA when I was still quite young. It dawned on me fairly quickly that since I had not grown up with the strange American sports I was being introduced to, I was always going to be bad at them (and the last one picked), so I decided to play the guitar every day instead of Little League or whatever.
