In this episode, Monica Kalra, International Divorce and Relationship Confidence Coach, shares her experiences growing up in the Indian culture, the intersection between culture, gender, and being a migrant, and the ongoing challenge of navigating traditional vs modern social norms.
Monica’s advice on how to avoid victim mentality when a relationship breaks down:

  • Be accountable for the part we played in the relationship
  • Take responsibility for our thoughts, actions, decisions instead of blaming others or external circumstances
  • Practise gratitude daily
  • Volunteering and paying it forward

She also touches on:

  • Tapping into your body to ask: what do I need right now?
  • How meditation helps us reconnect with our breath and body and be more present
  • The importance of the pause between stimulus and response
  • The two kinds of journaling that can help: Gratitude & Self-gratitude (recording your wins)
  • The importance of protecting and honouring your boundaries in a relationship.
  • Why we are afraid to be vulnerable, authentic, and transparent
  • Tips for introverted and highly sensitive persons going through a challenging relationship.
  • How to rebuild trust in self and others after a relationship breakdown.
  • Be consistent in doing the things that show we honour our words - let our actions match our words.
  • How to support a family member or friend through a relationship breakdown - listening with empathy, don’t give advice, don’t judge another’s choices.
