E4: MENTAL HEALTH with Jessica Grant Mental health issues are virtually untreated in the Black community. It's due to the stigma and judgment that prevents Black and African American from getting the help they need. There's still a negative stigma around receiving treatment for mental health issues, because no one wants to admit that they're sick. "Nearly 90 percent of Black and African American people over the age of 12 with a substance use disorder did NOT receive treatment" as well as "Black and African American people make up 13 percent of the general U.S. population, but nearly 40 percent of the prison population" These are staggering statistics which we're addressing directly in hopes to shed light on a problem that's plaguing the black community. Who is Jessica? A social worker whose worked 7 years with "at risk" youth in a group home setting. She's also worked 5 years with social services agency to keep families together or reunify them if they have been separated. She's also a great friend, and parent to a handsome 2 year old boy named Jaylen. Her ambitions drives her to being a well rounded person who walks in line with her purpose. We'll be covering: 1. Mental Health in the Black community 2. Cancel Culture 3. Game - Black FAMILY FEUD! 4. Suicide We want this show to be as interactive as possible so we look forward to hearing in the COMMENTS section. New episodes every Tuesday. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
