Robert Rivard served as editor of the San Antonio Express-News 1997-2011. He’s worked asa reporter and editor at four other Texas newspapers and for Newsweek magazine, first as a foreign correspondent covering civil wars in Central America in the 1980s and then as the magazine's chief of correspondents until 1989 when he returned to Texas. Rivard is the recipient of journalism's oldest prize; Columbia University's Maria Moors Cabot Prize for Distinguished Journalistic Service, was named 'Editor of the Year' by Editor and Publisher magazine, and was a winner of the 1982 Sigma Delta Chi Distinguished Service Award for Foreign Correspondents for his writings from El Salvador during that country's long civil war.
