Stage three, Valley of Death, is a stage where people are struggling to stay on track with their low-carb diet and exercise regimen. Many symptoms of being in this stage include motivation dropping off, cravings for unhealthy foods, and comparing oneself to others. Nate and Kyle recommend that people learn from their past, set realistic expectations, and be patient while working on their health transformation. It is also important to understand that maintenance is not always sexy and that it can take longer than expected to achieve long-term results.

Opening Segment [00:01 - 4:37]

  • What is the valley of death?
  • Symptoms of being in the valley of death
    • The positive changes that worked at first have cooled off
    • Motivation is lower - not seeing such a 1:1 result
    • “Am I missing something?” Looking for the secret
    • Analysis paralysis from too much research and info

The Valley of Death [4:38 - 15:28]

  • Micro roller coasters
    • counting your ‘streaks’ in days
  • The scale isn’t moving = “I suck”
  • Looking back on the parts of the week that you could have done better
  • Frustration is a key component of being stuck
    • Harder than it was in the past
  • Understand that you might need to be “unbalanced” for a time while you work on health
  • Set expectations for slower and longer than anyone tells you
  • Understand that nothing is “mandatory” and that you’ll be able to slowly shift more into balance
  • Guide to eating out
  • Month-long reboot
  • Having a structured training protocol

Closing Segment [15:29 - 17:36]

  • Not being confined to the results of the scale is key to moving to step 4
