The assumptions upon which US Middle East policy is based have become outdated. A recent report from the Foreign Policy Research Institute has identified four landmark areas of change that compel the US to rethink its approach to the Middle East: North American Oil Independence, the rise of China, diminishing conventional threats to Israel (in light of the Abraham Accords and other factors), and the emergence of sub-state actors beyond just insurgency and terror groups. In this episode, we discuss each of these factors and how we must think about them as we look to the future of the Middle East.
