My Personal Journey of Navigating Love and Immigration™
Manage episode 341713641 series 3397009
On this premier episode of the Navigating Love and Immigration™ podcast, our host Megan Pastrana tells us all about her personal journey of doing just that - navigating love and immigration. Currently an immigration attorney and the owner and CEO of Immigration for Couples, Megan is passionate about helping couples to receive their green cards and US citizenship. She kicks off the episode by sharing her and her husband’s experience of going through an immigration process. As much as it’s exciting to start the next chapter of life with the person you love, it’s also challenging to navigate the US immigration process. Megan says that the purpose of her podcast will be to support anyone who’s either just starting or in the middle of their immigration journey. She will interview different guests on her show, from relationship experts to other couples that have already gone through the immigration process.
Then, Megan opens up about the emotional rollercoaster that is the immigration journey. One day you’re all excited to start a new life somewhere else, the next day, you’re miserable because you haven’t seen your significant other in over a year. Megan addresses the incredible power of choosing your own emotions during these challenging times. Even though you can’t control the outcome, you CAN control how you feel. That’s the unbelievable power of choice right there. Finally, Megan sums up the episode by saying that the immigration process is incredibly complex, but being intentional about your emotions and choosing how you want the experience to go for you will eventually help strengthen your relationship and help you grow together. You’ll not want to miss this opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this fascinating new podcast, as transformative as it is informative, and one whose many lessons not only apply to love and immigration, but to so many other areas of our lives as well.

Quotes:
“I know when I work with couples, I just know what they're feeling. And if you're going through an immigration process, I know all of the emotions - it's a roller coaster. You're nervous, it's an unknown territory, it's not something that you typically navigate more than once going through that US immigration process to receive a lawful permanent residency.”
“For my husband and I, we always joke, though, that he was my first client, or I guess you can say I was my own first client. I'm not recommending that you have to go to law school or become your own immigration attorney to be able to do your case. But for us, that was just the path that life took us on. And I got to complete that case under the supervision of a mentor because it was before I had completed law school. But that was really my first opportunity. ”
“The unknown for human beings is not always a fun or a comfortable feeling. And we just found more and more that we had to be intentional with what we were choosing to focus our time and energy on.”
“That's one of our greatest powers as human beings is that power of choice.”
“When you're going through the process, you are faced with all kinds of unique challenges, no matter how straightforward your case may appear to be, the immigration process in the United States is not made to be easy or straightforward. It really is. It's a labyrinth, it's a maze, it's complex.”
