This isn’t a story to gain pity. This isn’t a story to grow sympathy. Today is Boston Marathon Monday. I am proud to live in this great city. I moved here for college in 2011 and I haven’t left yet. I love this fucking city. So on Marathon Monday, I’d like to share with you my thoughts and what I experienced on this day back 5 years ago, when the marathon bombings happened. I was in college to study film making. I was constantly working on film projects while trying not to go insane with my depression issues at the time. I had to get a job as well because I blew through all of the money I had saved for college. So I was juggling a 40-hour a week job, with going to school, to doing video projects, to trying to date and to go through my depression episodes. I was a fucking mess. On this day, all I really remember was that it was another Marathon Monday. I’ve been to the marathon the year before and I didn’t really see the need to go to it again this year. So I focused on my film studies and stayed at home in my apartment about 3–4 miles away from the finish line. I ended up taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon. I was awoken to my phone going crazy. Text sound after text sound. Facebook Messager going nuts. My phone ringing. I woke up to my father asking if I was alright. I told him I was and that I was napping, and he told me something happened at the Marathon. I turned the channel and was stunned. We were attacked. I had to catch up with everyone to make sure they knew I was alright. I watched the news as the rest of my friends and family to the horrifying details and footage of the bombing itself. The night of I went to walk around the city and it was stunning. Everyone was quiet. Many people still crying in mourn, hugging one another. This effected all of us, and changed our city forever. Now that next 5 days was a roller coaster, but that’s a story for another day. I want to wish everyone at the marathon the best. I hope the rain doesn’t stop you from reaching your goal. You are a lot stronger than I. Have an awesome Monday everyone. Let’s remember those we lost that day 5 years ago. RIP to Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, Officer Sean Collier & Lingzi Lu.
