Alexander J. Koch, Ph.D., CSCS joined Lenoir-Rhyne University in Fall 2011. He is the program coordinator for Exercise Science. Dr. Koch earned his BS (1995) and MS (1997) from Appalachian State University. in 2000, he also earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. His research interests include strength training, exercise and immune function, and sports nutrition.

Dr. Koch is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a National Weightlifting coach through USA Weightlifting. Outside of academia, Dr. Koch is heavily involved with the sport of weightlifting, coaching and instructing as a member of USA Weightlifting’s coaching education program.
