Only recently, a group of students drew attention to themselves by cycling from Belgrade to Strasbourg to draw attention to the abuses and corruption of the Serbian government. Serbia's possible accession to the EU plays a major role in this. Only recently, there were large protests in front of the state media houses (RTS and RTV). The demonstrations reflect the great dissatisfaction of young people in Serbia in particular. Radio Corax spoke to the Belgrade activist Savo Manojloviv about the current situation in Serbia. In just a few months, the citizens of Zagreb will go to the polls and decide if they want to grant the new green-left party Možemo! a second term to push for their social and sustainable policies under the governor, Tomislav Tomašević. In 2021, they almost gained a complete majority, shocking political observes and ousting the former government which had been in power for a long time. Taking over the city government together with the social democrats, they embarked on a sweeping reform of city politics, investing in green infrastructure and sustainability as well as adopting social reforms to provide better transport and access to education, especially kindergartens for everyone - even though the inherited a bankrupt city which didn't even have enough money left to pay all the city employees at the time. One of the people who suddenly was part of the city government, is Damir Bakić, a professor of math at the University, who is now also responsible for budget planning. Radio Corax met him in Zagrebs' town hall to find out what they have achieved in the last three years, which issues are still to be tackled and why support for Možemo! has decreased in the months leading up to the coming election on May 18th.…

The city of Zagreb is following ambitious plans to adapt to climate change and implement sustainable infrastructure, plans which have been pushed for strongly by the current administration. Something that is evident in a large construction project of a cultural center, called Paromlin, directly next to the main train station, which will become the cities first building that will be sustainable and climate change resistance in its entirety. For almost four years now, the green-left Možemo!, so it's hardly a surprise that these issues have become a larger issue in city politics. For the planning and technical implementation of projects in this area, there is a special agency, called REGEA for the city of Zagreb and the region. Originally set up as an energy agency 16 years ago, they established a climate change adaptation department three years ago, which now encompasses 50 people that support cities and regions in implementing projects based on expert knowledge. REGEA takes on a supportive role, providing consultations on energy and climate aspects during strategic planning. Radio Corax spoke with Miljenko Sedlar, Head of the climate department of REGEA about the scope of their work as well as the challenges of implementing sustainability and climate change adaptation throughout the city.…
