Listen to an in-depth interview with director and producer Arnold Leibovit about his fantastic restorations of The Puppetoons! 'The Puppetoons' series of short films were a very important part of Ray Harryhausen's early career, being his first paid work as an animator in the 1940s. Created by legendary director George Pal, the films used replacement animation, whereby a series of individual models were created to portray different movements or facial expressions, frame by frame. Trustee John Walsh and Collections Manager Connor Heaney speak with Arnie about his friendships with George Pal and Ray Harryhausen, and his decades of work with The Puppetoon films. Wonderful news for fans of Ray Harryhausen and stop-motion animation, as 'The Puppetoon Movie Volume 3' is now available to purchase. The release showcases high quality, restored versions of these wonderful films, many of which not been available to view in decades. Amongst other short films on this new release, Volume 3 contains 'Western Daze'- the first Puppetoon film that Ray Harryhausen worked upon. The fourth installment of our musical retrospective focuses on the soundtracks for two of Ray Harryhausen’s most beloved films- the two Sinbad films of the 1970s. With ‘The Golden Voyage of Sinbad’, Ray was able to work alongside one of his musical heroes- legendary composer Miklos Rosza. The resulting soundtrack was a perfect fit for the 1973 classic, with a rich and exotic score that acted as the perfect accompaniment for Ray’s fantastical on-screen creations. Then, in 1977, up and coming composer Roy Budd created the soundtrack for ‘Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger’- a score packed with adventure and magic. Listen as hosts John Walsh and Connor Heaney select their personal highlights from both scores, as well as their thoughts on Ray Harryhausen’s movie music from this period. Selected tracks from Intrada Records 2016 release for ‘The Golden Voyage of Sinbad’ are presented, in order to showcase music which was either edited or cut completely from the final film. Foundation conservator and Harryhausen megafan Alan Friswell also joins us to share his thoughts on the rich musical legacy of the Sinbad films. Track listing: Intro- Main Title (Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger) The Golden Voyage of Sinbad 'Koura Challenges Sinbad To Fight Kali/Kali Fight/Green Men Put Margiana In Pit' 'Homunculus Drops Tablet on Sinbad’s Ship' 'Centaur Attacks Sinbad ' Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger 'Minaton' 'The Pyramid' 'Melanthius'…

A very special episode of the Ray Harryhausen podcast, as we explore the Ray's lifelong friendship with legendary author Ray Bradbury. Phil Nichols from The Centre for Ray Bradbury Studies joins us for an in depth discussion on a relationship which was to span 8 decades. After meeting in the mid-1930s, the two became best friends, and would speak on at least a monthly basis for the rest of their lives. We explore the circumstances that would lead both men to become legends within their own fields of interest, and the early influences which inspired them both to greatness. Both Rays left an incredible archive of their own, and so we examine the parallels between the collection of the Centre for Ray Bradbury Studies, and the Foundation's own archive. The show also contains a never-heard-before interview with Ray Bradbury's daughter Susan, recorded at Ray Harryhausen's memorial in 2013, where she shares her memories of 'Uncle Ray' and their enduring friendship.
