This week on #TubtaNabadda, we mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, marked annually on 13 October, with a look at Somali initiatives to build resilience and reduce vulnerabilities to disasters or recurrent crises. Cindy Issac, OCHA Somalia Deputy Head of Office, explains how the United Nations’ emergency interventions and development assistance complement each other, and support Somali Government’s plan to achieve long-term resilience. She also talks about the need for Somalia to embrace a culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction, and how it can be achieved. We also interviewed Khadar Sh. Mohamed, Director of Disaster Management at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, about the importance of strengthening communities’ capacities to deal with natural and man-made hazards. Tune in today to Radio Garowe, Radio Mogadishu, Radio Kulmiye KNN, Radio Baidoa, SBC Radio, Radio Cadaado, Radio Risalah, Radio Dalsan, Radio Beletweyne, Radio Galgadud and Radio Kismaayo to be a part of it.
